Salary – £50-55k DOE

Our client, SMS International Shore Operations, is providing all passenger logistics services including port agency, turnaround services and shore excursions. Their teams welcome cruise guests from around the world and accommodate the needs of thousands of cruise ships every year. They are now looking for an experienced and highly reliable Shore Operations Manager to join their team in Southampton, Hampshire. This role involves the overall supervision of Guest Port, Airport and Hotel Operations relating to the embarkation and debarkation process, ensuring that high standards are maintained and that clients are put at the heart of the business – at all times.

Shore Operations Manager, the role:

• General: following all department and company regulations and policies; performing to company’s vision standards and strategy; designing solutions and processes; protecting operations and assuring discrete handling of the business; contributing to the department’s effectiveness; establishing priorities and procedures; communicating with senior management; attending meetings, workshops, seminars and industry forums
• Staffing: ensuring all set staffing levels and man-hours are being met; managing staff resources; overseeing incident reports; improving systems and guidelines to increase productivity; reinforcing accuracy and consistency; monitoring the quality of service; leading and assisting with the new staff the training; reviewing employees’ performance; sustaining open door policy
• Operations: liaising with pier personnel, internal departments and vendors; promoting excellence in all areas; building strong relationships with all service providers; assisting senior management in planning for all irregular operations; implementing new operational policies and procedures and ensuring compliance; maintaining approved head counts across all ports; reviewing weekly embarkation reports; managing professional customer and port relations; reporting all current operations status; driving initiatives; ensuring seamless communication between Airport, Port, Port Agency Operations and the ship; understating legal requirements and U.K. and EU Immigration procedures

Shore Operations Manager, the candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree in business management or equivalent experience
• Must be fully knowledgeable with the safety, maritime and statutory requirements and regulations applicable to the port and ship agency
• Progressive management and concrete cruise terminal operations background
• Extensive knowledge of terminal operations, transportation planning
• Very strong leadership skills; evidence of engagement, driving progress and change
• Approachable and forthcoming - committed to the development of others and their career path
• Working effectively in a multi-tasked, fast-paced environment, under tight deadlines; analysing and resolve issues independently
• Able to travel locally, regionally and on occasion internationally, available on weekends or after hours - at short notice
